Accessing the Curriculum

The curriculum support staff specialise in curriculum support and focus on how best to help the pupil who is experiencing barriers to accessing the curriculum. Identification of the barrier is required as is the cause and its effect on the pupil’s education. Staff assist in the development of both an appropriate curriculum as well as teaching and assessment strategies which meet the additional support needs of the pupil.

Staff work with pupils, parents, teachers and, where relevant, external agencies to ensure that pupil needs are met through a regular review of progress, identification of on-going need and advice on curricular choices to enable pupils to participate in their learning and achieve their potential. As part of a team supporting the feeder primary schools, the Academy staff may have had the opportunity to develop both an understanding of individual pupil needs and supportive relationships prior to the pupil entering secondary education.

Changes to individual assessment arrangements for SQA examinations can occur for many reasons and these are highlighted to pupils and parents should a need arise. Subject staff are fully involved in the consultation process and joint-decision making occurs with all involved parties.
