Positive Relationships and Behaviour

To affect the department’s aims staff must work in a flexible and imaginative manner, responsive to individual needs and team working is a key approach. While tasks may be delegated to individuals, the expertise of the whole team may be tapped whenever the need arises and help through discussion and sharing of ideas is always encouraged. This approach is used in partnership with other departments to create an effective working environment.

The department provides a friendly, working environment for all users. Pupils are expected to work to the best of their capabilities with the materials appropriate to their needs, age and aptitudes.

Programmes of work and pupil needs have to be integrated, using methodologies appropriate to pupils’ preferred learning styles. The development of trust and time spent in communication is seen as a positive way of establishing a purposeful working relationship. All pupils working in and with the department are encouraged to acknowledge their own self-worth and respect others.
