As you are aware next week the S3 and Senior pupils will move their learning on to the next level. Scholar is an online resource with tutorials and tests for approximately 37 different National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher courses. These online resources may be useful to those pupils moving to N5/H and AH courses. Please see below for access instructions.

S3 – Currently all S3 pupils should be able to access all N5 courses by using the temporary log in  Username: ges3nat5   Password: bird70pear. S3 pupils moving on to N5 Maths have been emailed an individual password, please use this for accessing Maths

Seniors. Most seniors should know their scholar passwords, if they have forgotten their password they should email their teacher. Scholar have opened up access to all other courses. To get onto these pupils need to click on “Display other courses” on their welcome page.

Please note that both of these systems are guest access only at this stage and permanent accounts will be issued in the new academic year.

Good morning Everyone.  I hope you had a relaxing weekend. Back to work now but just one more week to the holidays.

S1 pupils remember to keep reading your Accelerated Reader books and taking lots of quizzes (our librarians will help you download ebooks – see their Tile). We look forward to reading your Homework diaries too when we return to school. All additional work has been generated by Ms Allen and is on the English Tile.

S2 please continue with your KAL factfiles. Those with Accelerated Reader access should continue to read as much as possible. Ms Gavin has a great powerpoint to help you with creating those mindmaps.

S3 please continue with your newspaper articles homework, Animal Farm tasks and other work provided by Mrs Wilson on the English Tile.

S4/5/6 materials have been produced by Mr Sexton and Mr Grant and some in particular will help with your new courses next year – particularly your folios. Remember that Scholar has some great advice too for folio production.

For senior pupils missing their Yoga fix in PE each week, Miss Smith is going to share videos regularly that you can do at home.  All you need is comfortable clothing, and a mat or towel.  You can even get other members of your household to join in so that everyone feels the benefit and schedules a little bit of calm into the day!

The first two are completely beginner friendly – the first one has some simple postures to get you moving and breathing and gives you some great alignment tips which is handy if you’re a beginner and you don’t have a teacher there! The other is a short explanation and a couple of practises showing how our breath can be a really valuable tool to help improve our mental wellbeing.  For maximum benefit, try 3 times this week!

Family Zone

For Information

In response to school closures across the UK, the National Literacy Trust has launched a free online zone for parents seeking ideas and guidance for activities that will engage their children at home, whilst also benefiting their reading, writing and language development.

Family Zone www.literacyfamilyzone.org.uk is a one-stop shop for families. Drawing on our expertise and partnerships with teachers, authors, publishers, educational organisations and corporates, Family Zone brings together some of the UK’s most exciting literacy resources and activities in one place. Family Zone is curated for early years to early teens and is full of engaging activities for families to do together.

We will continue to develop and publish new content on Family Zone over the coming weeks and months to ensure that we’re keeping families engaged and motivated to learn and share stories together.

Scholar update

Covid-19 Additional Support

Temporary guest account for S3 learners

Scholar is an online resources which currently has materials for 37 National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher courses. Our seniors are already aware of scholar and have individual passwords which enable them to access courses that they are specifically studying. However, in addition to this, Scholar have identified that learners in S3 studying level 4 material as part of the BGE often cover topics common to National 5 courses and may find access to SCHOLAR National 5 courses useful.

During this time while schools have been effected by Covid-19 they have agreed to allow our S3 learners to work on the course materials. For the next 28 days they will be able to access our National 5 courses using the account details below

Message from the Rector

Update from the Head Teacher

Dear Parent/ Carer,

You may be aware the update SQA made yesterday evening with regard to Higher and Advanced Higher course  work. If not please see the attached link.  I know that your young person will be feeling a wide range of emotions from  disappointment, upset and uncertainty.  Please make them aware their hard work is not wasted and that any work they are continuing to complete should be e-mailed to their teacher as this will help them pull together their most recent work and support estimates.  I know that individual teachers will be in touch should they require any additional work or evidence.  Please also thank them for their patience and continued commitment to their studies at this time.

https://www.sqa.org.uk/sqa/93658.html

I would also like to remind them that if they need to contact either their guidance teacher or class teacher directly that they can email them.  Currently Turriff Academy office is closed and I am looking at ways to enable phone contact which I will up date in due course.

Take care all,

Kind regards,

Ms L Menzies
